I would definitely use local suppliers if timing was critical and if I wanted a hassle-free experience. I was prepared for just the sort of problem I had, and made sure that the appliances would arrive well before I actually needed them installed.

Now, I am the GC on this project and I used AJM knowing that the $3,500 or so that I was saving on cost of appliances, free delivery, and no sales tax was not going to be cost-free. I said yes and they said they would put the order in again. After getting put on hold for another 20 minutes or so the customer service rep came back and simply asked if I still wanted to get that type of range (un-broken). Later in the day, after literally an hour waiting to get through to AJM, I spoke to a live person and explained the whole thing.
I tried to take a picture of the damage and they would not allow me to do so. Eventually, after about 15 minutes of me trying to get through to AJM the delivery guys said "F*** this and f*** you," and re-crated the damaged range and took it away. It was impossible to get through to AJM customer service while this was going on. I refused to sign for delivery and the delivery guys became fairly hostile. Once inside and uncrated it was clear that something had fallen on the griddle and completely caved-in the whole cooktop. Custom 36" FiveStar (black) was definitely not OK. High end appliances came in a couple different deliveries. I purchased all appliances from AJM because I wanted to get a discount (on top of already discounted prices) on the high-end appliances.Īpartment appliances arrived without a hitch. Rentals will have basic builder grade appliances, my apartment will have high end. Two of the apartments will be for tenants and the third one will be for me. I am rehabbing a 3-unit apartment house in Baltimore. I am in the middle of an AJ Madison buying experience, and part has been great but another part has been not so great and it is not over yet. I tried to look at a GE Cafe matte white fridge (I think they're stunning), but I'm living in a small town in Northern Ontario, and such a thing cannot be seen in any store. I do plan on putting a counter depth fridge/freezer in the pantry in any event.

I'm either going to go with a full size 36' wide fridge (and recess it into the closet on the other side of that wall so it's flush with the kitchen cabinets), or I might contemplate stand alone freezer and fridge columns in one of the higher end brands, either panel ready or SS (depending on cabinet fronts I choose), and split them up to balance out the kitchen. The higher end brands like Thermador, Dacor, etc., are much taller and similar to each other in size.

And if you did install them separately and didn't care about the matching, you couldn't just stick any column fridge or freezer from another brand into the hole, because the sizes don't fit.
He also told me that it has happened to customers in the past who bought similar product pairs (not the high end ones), and had one of the units break and, because the company was no longer making the exact same unit, both sides had to be replaced or they would not have matched.
The fridge only comes with the handle on the left and the freezer's door handle is only on the right. In case you are curious, the appliance dealer told me that the Frigidaire duo's door swings cannot be switched.
