In reading the OPs initial question I would hope he can recall the name of the app so we could walk him through a manual check. smcFanControl lets the user set a minimum speed for built-in fans. I think the risk of a trainwreck is just too great. If there is a problem, it will turn itself off long before any damage can occur. Secondly, there have been far too many cleaner apps that were ported from Windows that don't know NOT to delete important Mac system files. In my opinion - turn off whatever monitoring application you're using, uninstall smcFanControl and enjoy your MacBook Pro without being paranoid. The big issue I have is that app removal apps are almost always hyped by download hosting sites and most of those are notorious for giving you unwanted nasties with those "free" downloads. smcFanControl lets the user set a minimum speed for built-in fans.
